We finished the wheelchair distribution last Friday. It was an amazing moment when we realised just how much the week’s work had impacted the lives of the local people. Story after story of hope and dignity restored in the face of unrelenting struggle.
This venture was also a wonderful example of a chain of people each doing their part. CBR partnered with Wheels for the World to see wheelchairs donated in the UK and lovingly refurbished by people in prison there shipped to us here in Eldoret. Finally the team of therapists and technical wizards arrived from the UK to do the distribution. They worked tirelessly alongside local staff and volunteers to serve some of the most marginalised people in our society.
The clients received mobility aids, a nutritious meal, counselling and an abundance of love and care. One woman told her story to Revd. Evelyn and they wept and prayed together. Then the woman leapt up and leaning on her new walker she danced and sang her way out of the diocesan compound.
